This time of year, you’re starting to think about what you can do to feel healthier and happier in the next twelve months. There’s nothing like the festive season and all of its indulgence to make you feel ready for a change in the new year. However, sometimes, we wait until January 1st to make the bulk of the changes we want to. Yet, you may find that it’s more natural and much more effective for you to think about doing that right now. Although you may want to enjoy yourself and relax a little over Christmas, you can still work in a bit of damage control at the same time. In short, there’s never a right time to adopt a healthy lifestyle, but there’s never a wrong one either. And so, opting to make a few changes today, and more in the future could be just what need.
But where do you start?
When most people are looking to change their lives for the better, that’s where they fall flat. Sometimes, you might think that you have to wait until you feel ready, but that’s never the case. You can start whenever you want – including today. You just have to work out a few things – what you want, how you’re going to do it, your nutrition, your fitness, and your mental health. And then, you’ll be able to make the changes you want! So, to help you get started, let’s take a look at each of those ideas.
What You Want
To start with, before you begin the journey, you need to make sure that you know what you want. So, this is what we’re going to work on first.
Identify The Catalyst
The very first thing that you need to do here is to make sure that you know what it is that you want to change. Because when any of us wants to make changes in our lifestyles, it’s essential to understand why. When you know what your why is, you can then pick out the right steps to help you make those changes. Do you want to lose weight, have more energy, or whatever else? And why do you want to do it!
The next thing that you have to do here is to make sure that you’re specific enough. Don’t just say you want to lose weight. How much weight? By when? Or that you want to get fit. How fit? What do you want to be able to do? If you can get as specific as possible with yourself, you may find that you can have a shot at going after what you want.
Focus On How You Feel
However, it’s so important to make sure that you’re placing importance on feeling here. Sometimes, you just think about the things you want. But, it’s much better to focus on how you want to feel like energized or more alert or happy. Because then you can chase after those feelings. Things don’t make you happy, but emotions do. So, when you aim for a sense, it feels so much more rewarding when you get it.
How You’re Going To Do It
When you know what you want to achieve, you can then work out how you’re going to make it happen; this is where the fun starts!
Do The Research
Now that you have your ideal end goal in mind, you then have to work out how you’re going to get it. But, it’s not good enough to just pluck ideas out from your mind. It helps if you can research what you need to do and then go for it. Whatever your goals are, make sure that you try to read up online before you make any concrete decisions on how you get there. Real-life case studies can help you here.
When you’ve done that, the next thing that you need to be able to do is to get real with yourself. This whole process is not about trying to go after your goals that are way too big or far fetched from your current lifestyle. Instead, you need to make sure that you’re realistic with the time scale that you are working with and what you can achieve. Because then, it will help you to make things happen.
Have A Plan
The final thing that you will need to do in this phase is to come up with your plan. Unless you figure out how you’re going to make this happen and create a plan, you may find that it just does not occur. So, you’re going to want to write down your goals and your action plan for achieving them- which will make you excited and motivated to get things started!
Next up, you then need to get actions in place, starting with your nutrition. Nutrition is key to getting your body and energy levels to where you want them to be.
The first thing that you need to do here is to cut down on some of the things that you know are not the best for you. Be it cutting down on sugar, alcohol, gluten, or anything else that you know isn’t making you feel your best. And it’s okay to do it in stages because sometimes restricting yourself or going cold turkey can feel so much harder.
But then also, you need to make sure that you’re looking at the things you need to add into your life. It’s not all just about what you cut out or stop doing. Sometimes, you can feel so much better in yourself by bringing in better nutrition, and over time, you start to cut back on things in the long term. Whether it’s the right food or more water, just make sure that you are adding more value to your diet with what you eat and drink.
But then the final thing that you might find helps you here is to deal with your portion control a lot more. Sometimes, it’s effortless for you to overeat or put too much on the plate. But your body just doesn’t need that. And so, instead, you may want to manage the amount you’re eating at each meal, and add in more snacks. Portion control will help you to feel more energized.
Then we have fitness. You will find that diet is essential and contributes to a lot of your health and happiness, but fitness makes you feel good.
First up, you’re going to want to make sure that you know yourself well and that you know what exercise is right for you. Don’t force yourself to try new things or what’s trendy if you won’t stick at it!Why wait for January 1st to make a change? Aim For Efficiency
It’s also then essential to ensure that you are trying to make your exercise as efficient as possible. Here, you could find something like How To Get The Absolute Maximum From Your Workouts helps you to make every moment count. You should then find you get your results sooner rather than later.
It’s also beneficial for you to make sure that you are as consistent as possible with your workouts. It’s not how often you train or how hard, but how you stick at it!
Next, you need to make sure that you are working on your mental health. When you can feel happier in your mind, you can feel happier altogether.
When it comes to your mental health, opening up can be so vital for you. If you are suffering and not talking about it, it can just make you feel so much worse. So find someone that you feel comfortable talking to and open up!
Take Care Of Yourself
You should then make sure that you are looking after your mind and yourself too. This all matters to a healthy lifestyle. If you can practice self-care, slow down, meditate, try yoga, or anything else, it can help you to feel good all around.
Put The Practice In
From here, you then need to make sure that you just keep it all up. You are going to find that you will struggle if you don’t work at it. Whether it’s your meditation practice or self-care, you have to keep it up. Without a routine, the habit won’t stick, and you may find yourself going backwards. But the more you do the work and work on your mind; it’ll start to pay off for you.
And that’s all there is to it. At first, you may feel as if it’s going to be hard and you have no idea how you can make it work, but you can and you will. You just start at the top, you make it a habit, and you finally you’ll find that you feel healthier and happier before you know it.
